Every year around 20 people die as a result of scalds caused by hot bath water and a further 570 suffer serious scald injuries. TMV’s can also be a source of biofilm where legionella bacteria can breed if not maintained accordingly – for this reason they should form part of the sites legionella risk assessment and legionella control policy.

Let us check that your Thermostatic Mixing Valve ‘TMV’ is performing to the required standard – for a TMV3, D08 states that the first test must take place 6 to 8 weeks after commissioning and the second test 12-15 weeks later.

What is a THERMOSTATIC MIXING VALVE :

A thermostatic mixing valve (TMV) is a device used to regulate the temperature of water supplied to wash hand basins and baths & showers.

Its Primary purpose includes:

●      Temperature Control: It blends hot water and cold water to maintain a preset temperature, preventing scalding or discomfort

●      Safety: By Mixing the water to a safe temperature, TMV’S reduce the risk of burns, especially in environments like hospitals, nursing homes, and homes with children or elderly residents.
